It’s a wonderful week on Lake Winnipesaukee. Camp Winaukee staff has been very busy getting camp ready for our campers. We are so excited to welcome you all!
Camp Winaukee staff includes leadership, counselors, kitchen, maintenance, housekeeping, transportation, media team, office, accounting and medical. In total, we number over a 100 people. As you can imagine, things are picking up and getting lively around here.
One of the things we strive to cultivate during staff orientation is instilling the core values and beliefs of Camp Winaukee in our returning and new staff members.
From icebreakers to sports games (we are a sports camp after all), every activity this week has helped create a strong sense of belonging and has helped our staff bond quickly. We have many familiar faces but we also have quite a few new staff members. It’s amazing to witness the newcomers assimilate into camp life and work as a team with everyone else. Just by watching them around camp, you wouldn’t know they have only been at Camp Winaukee for 2 days or 5 days.
No person is their own island at Camp Winaukee and no task is too low for anyone to perform. Whether it’s blowing up the inflatables for the waterfront or cleaning the toilets in the cabins or putting nets on the soccer goal posts, we all work together to achieve our goal – which is to make Winaukee the best possible place for us and our campers.
No matter what we’re doing and no matter how much fun we’re having, it is always SAFETY FIRST. Safety starts from the very first day we (the staff) arrive in camp and it is our no. 1 priority all summer long. Safety first is not just in risky places like the waterfront or the ropes courses; it is also in cabins, our environment (trees, walking paths, boats etc.) and every space we occupy. We hold each other accountable in ensuring that everyone, staff or camper, leaves camp in the same condition they first drove through the Camp Winaukee gates.
